What kind of song, Part II
Again, the best inspiration is the playlist at
KROQ.com. This is a challenge because
many people write in a more acoustic-folk style which doesn't lend itself to the intensity of this CD.
The preferred format is rock/alt rock but it's best to define the emotional style first and let
the song/story flow from that. The listener needs to be in the moment, to feel sadness, anger, a refusal to comply,
a determination to overcome. And attitude--resistance, inner strength, determination and victory. After
hearing the Manhater CD, the listener should feel great.
Here are some good examples from submissions so far:
(thanks to the artists for permissions to post these)
January, by Elizabeth Elkins
More than any, this song embodies what we're looking for. It has the best of all
worlds--strength in voice, attitude, and music.
Lonely Ones, by Samantha Blanchard
The clip starts with voice nearly alone yet it carries emotion. The song then builds in
musical complexity so that it matches the set.
Barbie Doll, by Jennifer Corday
A good balance of strong attitude displayed in voice, lyric and music.
Please notice also the high production quality of these selections.
There is room for one or two contrasting songs--a ballad perhaps, or something slow to start
the theme story--but they will be exceptions to the style. And frankly, I'm receiving fewer of the
stronger songs so your best chance of getting on the CD is with something similar to
those above.
Please feel free to write to me, ask questions, etc.
Good luck!
